Reader's Comment on ... The Laid Daughter: A True Story
I was sort of afraid to read this book - was afraid the incest story would be too hard to look at head on. Before I started, I decided I would stop if I wanted to. I never stopped. Bonner's way with words always made me feel safe. Her story made me want to read on. I knew that things would work out - that I would be left with hope instead of despair. I am heartened by this book. -A Minnesota reader This is a dynamic book for incest survivors, for those who care about them, or are puzzled by them. Good read too.- K. Crawford, California This is an excellent educational tool for professionals, graduate students, survivors, and the general public.- Donita Lukich, Illinois From the moment I began reading The Laid Daughter, I found it difficult to do anything else. I read until the book fell from my hands.- Aubrietta Hope, Illinois I particularly admire her honesty about even the sexual exploits of her life, which I believe are a problem for many of us survivors.- Phyllis Froehle, Illinois Bonner's book is compelling, horrifying and, in the end, illuminating. She takes us on a grim trip through her childhood incest experiences as they are revealed to her through psychotherapy and the clues in her own journals. We come out having seen hell and fearing it less because we've survived.- Louise Menglekoch, Minnesota
